Kaiyang county in Guiyang – capital city of China's Southwest Guizhou province – recently made the list of 2021 China's Top 100 Counties with Comprehensively Strengthened Tourism, with a ranking of 53rd place.

The findings were included in the 2021 National County Tourism Research Report, which was jointly released by the national county tourism research group and the Beijing Huaxia Baiqiang Tourism Consulting Center, based in the nation's capital.

The report said the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 severely impacted the highly market-oriented tourism industry. The National County Tourism Research Report has as its aim to comprehensively, objectively and scientifically reflect the development level and quality of China's county tourism – and help the tourism industry recover in the post-epidemic era.

The research on the strength of county tourism used an indicator system covering six areas: the development level of the tourism economy, the role of the government, the driving dynamics of the tourism industry, tourism development and environmental protection, tourism facilities and service functions, quality tourism supervision and overall market supervision.

The 2021 National County Tourism Research Report reportedly showed that the top 100 counties in the country with comprehensive tourism strength were distributed in 19 provinces. The three provinces of Zhejiang, Guizhou and Jiangsu continued to occupy the top group position, claiming 37 places, 10 places and 10 places, respectively.

In addition to Kaiyang county, Qingzheng city and Xiuwen county – also administered by Guiyang – entered the national list too, ranking at 64th place and 65th place, respectively.
