Maojiayuan village in Nanjiang township, Kaiyang county in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has increased villagers' incomes by planting Chinese medicinal materials, according to local media reports.

Maojiayuan used to be an extremely poverty-stricken village, until it began planting Chinese medicinal materials in 2018.

In February 2019, Guizhou Xiancao Agricultural Group Co Ltd started a business in the village that is responsible for seedlings, technology, purchases and sales. Farmers in the village are responsible for planting, maintenance and harvesting. The village signed a 25-year cooperation contract with the company to ensure long-term development.

The planting area of Chinese medicinal materials in Maojiayuan village has grown to more than 2,000 mu (133.33 hectares) due to the "company + cooperative + farmers" model. The number of villagers working at the base is approximately 600 people.

Going forward, the village will integrate healthcare, tourism and culture into the farming of Chinese medicinal materials. The aim is to seek further rural revitalization, according to the village's Party secretary Luo Ziyin.
