An agreement-signing ceremony for the "1 million pig industrial chain project" was held on March 12 in Kaiyang county in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
With an investment of 1.32 billion yuan ($203 million), the project was invested by Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) and is located in the Taiwan industrial park in Longgang town.
According to the agreement, a comprehensive pork-processing project will be constructed. Upon completion, the facility will be able to slaughter 1 million pigs. A 100,000-metric-ton food processing project primarily focused on deep processing of pork will also be built.
In addition, a base with no less than 300,000 pigs for slaughter per year will be built in Kaiyang county within two years.
The project should be finished in about three years. After going into production, it is expected to generate an annual output value of 4 billion yuan and comprehensive taxation of 110 million yuan each year. Estimates suggest the project will create roughly 1,140 jobs.
Chen Hao, president of CP Group in Guizhou, thanked Guiyang and Kaiyang for supporting the group. He said he hopes that the project will contribute to local economic and social development.
Wang Qiyun, secretary of the Party committee of Kaiyang county, said that the project will become one of the pillar industries of modern agriculture in Kaiyang. It is a milestone in promoting the modernization, standardization and large-scale development of the agricultural industry in the county.
Kaiyang will offer full support for the project and welcomes more large companies to invest there, Wang added.
