A commencement ceremony for a 1,000-metric-ton green tea processing project was held on Oct 18 in Nanlong town, Kaiyang county, in Southwest China's Guizhou province.
Over 100 people attended the event, including Liu Wenzhu, deputy secretary of the county Party committee, Duan Honglian, deputy head of the county, and representatives from Zhejiang's tea enterprises.
The project, which is the first of its kind in the county, is being developed by Kaiyang Zhelong Tea Industry Development Co. The planned facility will cover 10 mu (0.67 hectares), and more than 4 million yuan ($598,800) has been invested in the project.
According to project leader Wang Jiaquan, after the project officially begins operation, it will be able to process 1,000 tons of raw matcha annually. Currently, Nanlong's existing summer and autumn tea stocks are far from enough to meet the demand.

The company's next step will be to cooperate with tea producers throughout the county to purchase summer and autumn tea to meet the sales demand for raw materials.
In recent years, Nanlong town has implemented the rural revitalization strategy and structural reform of the agricultural supply side. It has developed its characteristic industries based on high requirements and has built agricultural and tourism demonstration parks by integrating the tea and tourism industries.
The town has also created quality agricultural product brands following a market-oriented model and promoted the upgrading of agricultural industrialization to realize the industrial chain's integration and enrich local people's lives.
