Jinzhong makes list of top 100 towns in Western China

Jinzhong town in Kaiyang county – administered by Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – was recently listed as one of the top 100 towns in Western China in 2019.

Jingzhong's recognition was included in the "2019 Report on China Township Comprehensive Competitiveness", which was jointly issued by the Competitiveness Think Tank, the Information Development Research Institute of China Information Industry Association and the Beijing Zhongxin Urban Planning and Design Institute.

The report reveals that of the top 100 towns in Western China, 26 are in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 22 in Shaanxi province, 18 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 13 in Yunnan province, 10 in Sichuan province, nine in Guizhou province, one in Ningxia Hui autonomous region and one in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Statistics revealed that the population of the top 100 towns in Western China averaged 72,700 residents.

The average annual public fiscal revenue was 465 million yuan ($68.1 million), the average number of manufacturers came in at 137, and the average number of manufacturers above designated size – those with annual sales above 20 million – was is 19.

Local officials said that Jinzhong – located in northwest of Kaiyang county, 88 kilometers away from Guiyang city – is a typical town in the region, featuring a mountainous terrain.

The town covers a total of 74.84 square kilometers and its main industries are agriculture and mining.

Jinzhong town is also rich in phosphate. Proven reserves of phosphate ore have been estimated at 430 million metric tons and the average content of P_2O5 is 33.73 percent.

Geologists have estimated that the high-quality rich ore containing more than 32 percent of P_2O5 in Jinzhong accounts for more than 70 percent of total proven reserves of the country.

It is the main source of high-quality rich ore in China and has the potential to be a high-quality phosphate rock hub for producing high-concentration phosphate fertilizer.
