The groundbreaking ceremony for a major commercial mushroom farm and production facility recently took place in Liuyu village in Kaiyang county – administered by Guiyang, capital of China's southwestern Guizhou province – according to local officials.
The facility, which is being jointly funded by Kaiyang Xingxi Agricultural Investment Co and Xingyi Qijiang Edible Fungus Technology Service Co with a total investment of 120 million yuan ($17.16 million), covers an area of 640 mu (42.67 hectares).

Officials said the mushroom production facility will drive the development of the commercial mushroom industry in 16 villages and towns in Kaiyang county.
It is expected to provide more than 2,200 job opportunities for locals, helping low-income families. Their per capita income is expected to increase by more than 1,600 yuan a year.
