Guizhou advances natural resources standardization

A seminar on leveraging standards to support high-quality development in the natural resources sector was held in Guiyang on May 22 by Guizhou Department of Natural Resources.

This brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss how to better align standard formulation with practical needs and enhance innovation-driven standardization.

The event focused on addressing challenges such as the disconnect between standard supply and real-world application, while highlighting the role of scientific and technological innovation in supporting a more effective standard system.

Participants emphasized how standardization plays a fundamental and guiding role in advancing natural resources governance.

Recent years have seen steady progress in standardization work in the province's natural resources sector.

At the same time, attention was drawn to gaps that still need to be addressed, particularly under new national trends shifting from scale expansion to higher quality and efficiency, as well as provincial policies aimed at streamlining local standards.

To further improve the system, several priorities were outlined. These included strengthening top-level design to ensure more targeted standard-setting, improving full-cycle management so that standards move from "paper documents" to practical implementation, and reinforcing organizational foundations by building a stronger professional talent pool to support long-term development.

Representatives from relevant authorities also provided guidance on broader standardization policies, including the development, promotion, application, and evaluation of standards in the natural resources field.
