Guizhou province has activated a Level IV flood emergency response as the region prepared for a prolonged period of heavy rainfall and severe convective weather from May 26 to 28, according to meteorological forecasts.
Authorities said the continuous heavy rain is expected to significantly increase the risk of flash floods, geological disasters and urban waterlogging.
In response to the evolving situation, provincial flood control authorities decided to activate the emergency response on May 26 following risk assessment and consultation, in accordance with the provincial flood and drought emergency plan.
Relevant departments and local governments have been instructed to closely monitor rainfall and flood conditions and activate their own emergency measures based on local conditions.
Special attention will be given to preventing mountain floods, landslides and urban flooding. Temporary control measures such as suspending operations, shutting down high-risk activities, evacuations and relocations will be strictly implemented when necessary to ensure public safety.
Officials also called for strengthened 24-hour emergency duty arrangements and timely reporting of important developments, with the priority of safeguarding lives and minimizing disaster impacts.
