From Feb 18 to 20, the Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning organized a series of research and discussion meetings to advance the preparation of the central Guizhou ecological functional zone integrated protection and restoration plan. The initiative focuses on the coordinated restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, and desertified lands.
Government departments exchanged insights on the current state of ecological protection and restoration, existing challenges, and potential projects.
Li Chunsheng, director of the Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning, emphasized the need for stronger cross-sector collaboration by enhancing interdepartmental coordination, utilizing expertise from various fields, and integrating resources for ecological governance.
He highlighted the importance of a targeted, systematic, and holistic approach to ensure the plan delivers environmental, economic, and social benefits.
Li also stressed the importance of identifying and addressing key ecological issues in priority areas. A science-based approach will ensure the restoration efforts are precise and effective, enhancing the plan’s relevance and impact.
Authorities were also urged to accelerate project screening and resource integration to improve efficiency and ensure high-quality projects are included in the plan.
