Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning launched inspections on Sept 14 to check geological disaster prevention work and ecological restoration in Qingzhen city, Guanshanhu district and Wudang district.

In the days leading up to the inspections, Guiyang was hit by heavy rainstorms.

The inspection team visited the three areas' natural resources bureaus and listened to their reports on geological disaster prevention work and ecological restoration progress.

Li Chunsheng, deputy director of Guiyang bureau of natural resources and planning, stressed the need to locate hidden dangers. He also said the focus should be on disaster prediction, prevention and response, and protecting people's lives and property.

The headquarters for geological disaster prevention shall play its role in guiding relevant departments to address hidden dangers, and village officials are being encouraged to join the inspection of geological disaster areas.

When a geological disaster occurs, the departments need to evacuate residents in the area as soon as possible to avoid injuries and deaths. A 24-hour duty system is also necessary to ensure round-the-clock disaster surveillance.

Also, the survey and management of abandoned mines must be finished on schedule in accordance with the provincial standards.
