Guiyang and Battambang forge ties as friendly exchange cities

A delegation led by Sok Lou, Governor of Battambang Provincial Board of Governors, Cambodia, visited Guiyang from Aug 27 to 31 to attend the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2026.

During the visit, Guiyang and Battambang Province signed a memorandum of understanding on friendly cooperation relations, establishing the two areas as friendly exchange cities and bringing Guiyang's friendship cities and friendly exchange cities to 33.

Battambang Province, in northwestern Cambodia, is 292 kilometers from the capital Phnom Penh and 80 kilometers from Angkor Wat. It is an important agricultural, historical, and cultural center of the country, the core province of the northwest, and a key hub for Cambodia–Thailand cross-border land trade. It covers an area of 11,702 square kilometers, has a population of approximately 1.1 million, and its main industries are agriculture, tourism, trade, and manufacturing.

According to the memorandum, the two sides will cooperate in areas including economy, trade, agriculture, education, culture, tourism, technology development, and human resources.

During the stay in Guiyang, the delegation also visited the Guiyang Urban Operations Management Center, Guizhou Radio TV Station, Qingyun Market, Qingyan Ancient Town, and Tianhetan Scenic Area, where they conducted inspection tours and held discussions on cooperation opportunities in urban governance, government services, new media applications, nighttime economy development, and tourism cooperation.

Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office will maintain close coordination with Battambang Province through list- and project-based approaches, and work with relevant departments to promote the solid implementation of friendly cooperation.
