Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, and Cartago in Costa Rica, recently signed a letter of intent to establish a sister city relationship, expanding Guiyang's network of sister cities and friendly exchange cities.
As of now, Guiyang has 30 sister cities and friendly exchange cities.

Cartago is a city of approximately 170,000 people located in Central Costa Rica, 27 kilometers from the national capital of San Jose, and serves as the capital of Cartago Province. It has an elevation of 1,435 meters and covers an area of 287.77 square kilometers.
Founded in 1563, the city was once the capital of Costa Rica and remains a significant national center for agricultural, livestock, forestry product trade, as well as a key transportation hub.
According to the letter of intent, Guiyang and Cartago will engage in exchanges and cooperation in various fields, including economy, trade, culture, tourism, education, and the humanities, aiming to enhance mutual understanding, strengthen their friendship, achieve mutual benefits, and work towards establishing formal sister city relationships at the earliest opportunity.
Guiyang will continue to focus on countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative and RCEP member countries as it expands and deepens exchanges and cooperation with partners, enlarges its international friend circle, and supports the high-level opening-up and high-quality development of Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area.
