Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office|Updated: 2023-05-24

Since its inception in 2015, the Big Data Expo has been held eight times. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council have attached high importance to the expo. President Xi Jinping sent congratulatory messages to the expo in 2018 and 2019. Then Premier Li Keqiang attended the Big Data Expo 2016 and delivered a keynote speech, and sent two congratulatory messages in 2015 and 2017.

Data Valley Forums have focused on global industry trends and national development strategies, and featured innovative themes at the frontier of the times. The forums had an extensive sphere of influence and received wide coverage from media partners such as the well-known TV program Dialogue of China Central Television. Nearly 300 forums have been held so far.

The exhibitions of the expo have brought together international giants such as Google, Qualcomm, and Oracle, as well as Chinese big data industry leaders such as Huawei, Tencent, Alibaba, and ZTE. The exhibition area has expanded from 40,000 square meters to 60,000 square meters, and the number of participating companies stood at around 400.

Expo Release, which unveils the winners of leading technology achievement awards, was included in the catalogue of science and technology awards by China's National Office for Science & Technology Awards in 2019. As a specialized award event acknowledged and registered at the state level, it is the only science and technology award event in the field of big data in China.

The expo has had guests from leading enterprises and research institutes, renowned experts, scholars and chief scientists from around the world. Tens of thousands of guests from over 60 countries and regions attended the expo.

The audience of the expo has increased almost tenfold from 13,000 in 2015 to 125,000 in 2019. In 2022, the number of online participants exceeded 27 million.

Activities have included the Data Valley Evening, autonomous driving and AI innovation contests, big data security contest and big data achievement exhibition, winning wide acclaim and high recognition from the guests and visitors.

Public communication of the expo has been impressive, producing great impact at home and abroad. On average, each edition of the expo has been covered by around 1,000 journalists from over 100 media organizations, and registered billions of views worldwide.

Fruitful results have been achieved. Over the past eight years, contracts worth more than 200 billion yuan have been signed. A number of important projects have been implemented, such as the data centers of China's top three telecommunications operators and the Finance 818 project. A host of leading enterprises such as Apple Inc., Tencent, and JD.com have settled in Guiyang and other parts of Guizhou.

The Big Data Expo has served as a great platform to pool together talent and resources across the globe to discuss the development trends of the big data industry and share views on how to further promote its development. Over the years, the expo has emerged as a pacesetter, a spectacular international event that offers ample cooperation opportunities, and a world-class platform for people to envision the future and to share the latest achievements.
