Guiyang receives Chinese New Year greetings from sister cities

In celebration of the Chinese New Year, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, received greetings from mayors of sister cities and friendly exchange cities, who wished the city a happy New Year and expressed their hopes of deepening practical cooperation.

In his letter, Mattie Parker, mayor of Fort Worth in the United States, wished Guiyang success in hosting the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2023 and the Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2023.

She also invited Guiyang to join the Stock Show and Rodeo which will be hosted by Fort Worth this year, and said she hoped that the two cities will create solid and sustainable friendships.

Grant Smith, mayor of Palmerston North in New Zealand, said in his letter that the past year was an important year for the two cities in further deepening their friendship, as 2022 marked 30 years of sister relations between Palmerston North and Guiyang.

Grant said he looked forward to furthering bilateral exchanges and working together on broadening opportunities related to things including but not limited to trade, agriculture, education, culture, sustainable development and digital development.

Joanne Anderson, mayor of Liverpool in the United Kingdom, said in her letter that China and the UK have done tremendous work to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, and she hoped the two cities will resume in-person exchanges as soon as possible.

Prasongsinh Chaleunsouk, mayor of Kaysone Phomvihane in Laos, hoped to negotiate the establishment of a stable, long-term and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two cities, and further strengthen the cooperation in various fields.

Chaiyaphum in Thailand, Rivera in Uruguay, and Solingen in Germany also sent letters of congratulation to Guiyang.

In addition, Kenji Kitahashi, mayor of Kitakyushu in Japan, Konstantinos Tzioumis, mayor of Tripoli in Greece, and chairman of Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee in Belarus, sent Chinese New Year greeting cards to Guiyang, wishing the city the best in 2023. 

Currently, Guiyang has 24 sister cities and friendly exchange cities, with a focus on economy and trade, culture, tourism, sports, education, and youth exchanges.

In 2023, Guiyang will focus on serving the country's overall diplomacy and local opening-up and development, carry out high-quality international sister city work, and further promote Guiyang's high-level opening-up.
