The fifth China-ASEAN Traditional Medicine Innovation and Development Forum was held in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Dec 17.

The forum was hosted by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Guizhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Society.

It included five sub-forums and one training course, and invited more than 70 experts from five countries to deliver speeches and reports. It was held both online and on-site, with more than 3,000 online attendees.

The forum showcased the innovative achievements of the combination of Chinese and Western medicines, and allowed experts to discuss basic research, clinical practice, efficacy evaluation, discipline construction and other aspects.

It is expected to promote the combination of Chinese and Western medicines, improve the public health, spread traditional Chinese medicine culture overseas, and boost the innovation and development of traditional medicines in China and ASEAN.

Tian Weiyi, vice-president of Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, welcomed all the experts and guests who attended the forum, and said that the university aims to enhance cooperation with ASEAN countries in the inheritance and innovation of traditional medicines, as well as talent training.

The university will focus on exploring ways to integrate traditional medicines with local medical treatment management systems, so as to improve Guizhou's medical treatment services, and boost the development of the combination of Chinese and Western medicines, traditional medicines, and the health industry.
