The 2022 Asian Mountain Tourism Promotion Conference is held in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Aug 18.
The conference aims to promote the mountain tourism brands of Asian countries, promote exchanges and cooperation in mountain tourism, and call upon countries to protect mountain resources and preserve mountain civilization.
According to the World Tourism Organization, mountain tourism accounts for about 20 percent of the global tourism market, with an annual output value of $100-140 billion. It is growing annually and showing great potential.
Located in East Asia and Southwest China, Guizhou is a typical mountainous province. The development of mountain tourism can help Guizhou accelerate economic development, protect its natural environment, and preserve its traditional culture.
Guizhou is known as a paradise for outdoor sports as more than 330 days throughout the year are suitable for sports, such as marathons, cycling, car racing, water drifting, and rock climbing.
From 2016 to 2019, Guizhou's tourist visits and tourism revenue maintained an average annual growth rate of more than 30 percent. In 2021, Guizhou's added value of tourism and related industries accounted for 5.2 percent of GDP, which means tourism has become a pillar industry of the province.
In the future, Guizhou will adapt to tourism reform and adjustment in the post-pandemic era and realize the sustainable development of mountain tourism by following nature.
It will also benefit from the high-quality development of mountain tourism around the world by enhancing communications related to mountain tourism through the International Mountain Tourism Alliance.
Guizhou will seek tourism investment to build first-class tourist attractions, rural homestays, vacation hotels, and other emerging business forms.
