To further raise standards for foreign language signs in Guiyang's public areas, the Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office recently surveyed Guiyang's main public venues, including airports, exhibition centers, government affairs service areas, hospitals, libraries, and museums.
During the survey, officials of the Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office listened to reports on the setting and rectification of foreign language signs and pointed out the inaccurate translations, mistranslations and machine translation problems of some signs.
Liu Xue, director of the Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office, said that the foreign language signs represent Guiyang's efforts to optimize the international business environment and improve Guiyang's international image.
All venues that provide public and cultural services have been directed to regulate their foreign language signs to better accommodate international travelers.
Liu said that all departments must provide financial support for the rectification of mistranslated foreign language signs. He also said the office will help review new foreign language signs before being set up so as to reduce mistranslation problems.
In the future, the Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office will develop a long-term management mechanism and promote foreign language sign regulation.
