Li Zejun, executive vice-president of the Guiyang People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries based in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, and related staff members attended the Video Conference of Chinese Mainland Members of the 2022 United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) on June 8.
The video conference attracted the participation of 78 heads of local government foreign affairs offices and friendship associations with foreign countries from 29 cities across China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Fuzhou.
At the video conference, representatives from the cities of Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Dalian, Changsha, Chengdu and Yiwu delivered speeches and held discussions.
UCLG, with the secretariat located in Barcelona, Spain, is the largest international organization of cities, local and regional governments, and municipal associations in the world. It has members in 140 countries, including more than 1,000 city members and 112 local government association members.
The organization is committed to helping local governments cope with the challenges due to globalization and urbanization by building a network of connections between local governments around the world and enhancing mutual understanding and promoting cooperation.
Guiyang was reviewed and approved by UCLG Asia Pacific in August 2020 to become a member of the organization.
Next, the city will strengthen communication and contact with UCLG, learn from the wisdom and experience of other member cities in urban construction and management, and share its own relevant practices.
It will also participate in and apply for holding UCLG's activities and conferences, and establish sister city relations with UCLG member cities with common goals, so as to promote high-level opening-up and high-quality development.
