Guiyang takes its place among China's second-tier cities

Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been ranked as a second-tier city in China, according to a summit of the Chinese mainland's top 100 cities held recently in Shanghai.

First, second and third-tier cities are listed according to their infrastructure, scientific research and education, overall economy and their people's sense of well-being.

The evaluation selected 18 first-tier cities, 34 second-tier cities and 48 third-tier cities. Guiyang ranked 44th overall nationally in the results.

In recent years, Guiyang is known to have pushed hard to improve its tourism services for visitors and the life quality and standard of living of its locals. In 2020, Guiyang's good and excellent air rate averaged at 98.9 percent, while GDP increased by 5 percent year-on-year, ranking it fourth among China's provincial capitals.

Giving full play to its advantages as a national big data pilot area, Guiyang was given the green light to construct a national big data development cluster, a big data technological innovation pilot area, a big data and cyber security pilot city, a 5G pilot city, a national big data lab and China's first big data resources exchange.

Guiyang lies at the junction of the Sichuan-Guizhou railway, Hunan-Guizhou railway, Guiyang-Kunming railway, Guizhou-Guangxi railway and the Nanning-Kunming railway. The convenience of its traffic is said to have attracted more and more young people to work and study in the city.

Currently, Guiyang is home to a workforce of more than 1.06 million. With more preferential policies currently in the pipeline in terms of developing talent platforms, corporate employment and employment for expats, Guiyang aims to become an ideal place for living and working.
