On December 8, with the support of Consulate General of the Republic of Philippines in Chongqing, Guiyang held a video conference with relevant departments of the Philippines' Parañaque City, so as to seize the opportunity of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) coming into effect on January 1, 2022 and develop sister city relationships with ASEAN countries. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on trade, education, tourism, big data and the establishment of sister city relationship and reached consensuses. Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, Philippine Consul General in Chongqing, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. Councilor Vandolph Quizon of Parañaque City addressed a speech. Li Zejun, Executive Vice President of Guiyang People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (GPAFFC), and Zheng Xuke, Vice President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guiyang Sub-Council, made presentations. Relevant persons-in-charge from Consulate General of the Republic of Philippines in Chongqing, Guiyang Bureau of Big Data Development and Management, Guiyang Municipal Education Bureau, and City Mayor Office and Public Information Office of Parañaque City also participated in the meeting.
Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo said that the Consulate General would act as a bridge to promote the sister city relationship between Guiyang and Parañaque City and expect the two cities to achieve solid results in cooperation of potential fields.
Participants from Guiyang and Parañaque City introduced their economic and social development and discussed the future orientation of cooperation in light of conditions of the two cities. They also discussed areas of interest to both sides.
Next, the Guiyang Foreign Office will keep in close contact with the Consulate General and Parañaque City and strive to sign a letter of intent to establish the sister city relationship as soon as possible based on the consensuses reached during the meeting.
Parañaque City is located in the capital district of the Philippines, about 20 km away from capital Manila. It covers an area of about 50 square kilometers and has a population of about 690,000. With 16 districts under its jurisdiction, it is an important commerce and business center of the Philippines, ranking the fifth in economic and social development in the Philippines.
