The Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office in Southwest China's Guizhou province invited Wang Wei, a teacher from the College of Foreign Languages of Guizhou University, to offer a lecture on conference interpreting and exam preparation for translation qualification certificates for all officials on Aug 6.
Wang, who has a lot of interpretation experience, introduced interpretation's three main principles, including language skill, interpretation skill, and background knowledge.
Wang pointed out that interpreters should pay attention to different standpoints, tones, and speakers' intentions when interpreting. She also taught foreign affairs officials about interpretation skills and preparation for China's Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI).
In the future, the Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office will organize more trainings on political theories, Party history, and vocational skills related to foreign affairs to improve the office's professional proficiency.
