Guiyang, city of Rivera discuss business in video conference

Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – and the city of Rivera in Uruguay in South America held a video meeting on June 22 to discuss investment and doing business.

Representatives from Guiyang's and Rivera's municipal departments and their local companies participated in the online meeting and promoted business opportunities.

Amid the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Guiyang and Rivera chose the format of a video meeting as the preferred method to explore international cooperation. Jose Mazzoni, secretary-general of Rivera government, gave a briefing on his city and called for further trade and investment with Guiyang.

Li Zejun, vice-president of the Guiyang Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said that Guiyang would do its best to realize future projects and strengthen its friendship with Rivera.

Analaura Soto, a representative of the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation, said that friendly cooperation at the city level between Guiyang and Rivera could be a reference point for wider government cooperation between Uruguay and China.

Guiyang and Rivera's corporate representatives operating in the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, wine and infrastructure construction sectors held talks on potential projects. These concerned prospective business ventures, the development of industrial parks and the construction of energy facilities.

Guiyang also invited Rivera to attend its major upcoming international events, such as Eco Forum Global and the International Alcoholic Beverages Expo.

Moving forwards, it is understood that the Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office will continue to help facilitate commerce between Guiyang and Rivera and help boost Guiyang's export-oriented economy.
