A delegation from the Japan-Guizhou friendship association on May 25 visited Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – and met with Tao Pingsheng, member of the CPC Guiyang municipal committee and Guiyang's vice-mayor.
Both sides discussed exchanges and business opportunities between the city and Japan in the areas of big data, middle and high-end manufacturing, new energy, tourism and cold-chain logistics.
During the meeting, Tao gave a briefing on the latest economic and social developments in Guiyang. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), its annual GDP growth rate ranked first among China's provincial capitals and the city's forest coverage rate reached 55 percent.
Guiyang has considerable geographical and logistical advantages, being home to one of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor's main ports for air transportation. Tao said that currently Guiyang is seizing opportunities and issuing support policies to achieve its high-quality development.
Tao urged the Japan-Guizhou friendship association to take advantage of its resources and channels to promote commerce between Guiyang and Japan, as well as to attract more Japanese enterprises to invest and do business in his city.
Guiyang is understood to be planning to provide an improved business environment to support the development of Japanese companies there.
Jin Fei, vice-chairman of the Japan-Guizhou friendship association, said that he was impressed by Guiyang's achievements in recent years. Since its establishment in 2017, the association had devoted itself to promoting exchanges and cooperation with Guiyang in commerce, culture and tourism.
In recent years, Japan has signed various cooperation agreements with Guiyang, while several Japanese businesses have invested in the city.
The association will reportedly continue to promote Guiyang's advantages in Japan, to attract more of its enterprises and projects to Guiyang and support Guiyang's economic and social development.
