Guiyang – the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – officially became a member of the United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) last August, but as a newbie member it is already on the move.
UCLG is the umbrella organization for cities, local and regional governments, as well as municipal associations throughout the world and is based in Barcelona, Spain.
In order to further expand its international communications channels, Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office held a video meeting with UCLG on April 30.
Zhang Mingquan, director of Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office and Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, secretary general of UCLG Asia-Pacific, exchanged opinions on holding international forums, establishing relationships with friendly cities and promoting international cooperation.
Zhang pointed out that currently Guiyang is focusing on the development of its digital economy, its environmental and ecological development, its rural revitalization – as well as developing a new model for its industrialization, urbanization, agricultural modernization and tourism industrialization.
He added that he is looking forward to UCLG's further support in developing friendly city relations, communications and cooperation and co-hosting international events.
UCLG's Tjandradewi expressed her appreciation of Guiyang's support for her organization's work and said that UCLG would go all out to promote Guiyang and help the Chinese metropolis cooperate with more UCLG city members in terms of commerce, investment, the digital economy and environmental protection.
