Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, held a meeting with Germany's Monchengladbach on April 13 to discuss cooperation in commerce, education, sports, technology and sister city construction.
Monchengladbach is a city located west of the Rhine and is known for its soccer club Borussia Monchengladbach.
Martin Thiess, chief representative of Monchengladbach in China and general manager of Borussia Monchengladbach soccer club in China, introduced Monchengladbach's basic information and main industries at the meeting.
According to Thiess, Guiyang and Monchengladbach have broad prospects for cooperation in commerce, technological innovation, education and sports.
Zhang Mingquan, director of the Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office, also introduced Guiyang's basic information at the meeting and pointed out that Germany is one of the main countries involved in Guiyang's opening-up. He said he hopes that Guiyang and Monchengladbach will enjoy in-depth cooperation.
The Guiyang Bureau of Sports, Guiyang Bureau of Education and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade's Guiyang sub-council reached preliminary consensus on cooperation plans proposed by Martin Thiess.
In the future, Guiyang will continue communicating with Monchengladbach and Germany's consulate general to achieve cooperation and sign a memorandum of friendship and cooperation with Monchengladbach.
