Stephen Ellison, the consul general of the United Kingdom (UK) in Chongqing, paid a visit to Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Dec 7, and exchanged opinions on medical treatment, education and big data with Guiyang's vice mayor, Wei Dingmei.
It is the first time that Ellison has visited Guiyang since becoming consul general in Chongqing last November.
According to Wei, Guiyang has implemented the health industry's integration with big data, ecological development, tourism and poverty alleviation. Guiyang has built a tourism area featuring summer vacation options, sightseeing and hot springs, contributing considerably to the city's tourism development.
In recent years, Guiyang has carried out in-depth cooperation with the UK in sister city construction, big data and medical treatment.
Wei said that she hopes both sides will enhance such cooperation in the future and invited Ellison to attend the World Congress of Chinese Medicine in Guiyang in 2022.
Ellison said that the UK was experienced in organizing and operating medical services and hoped to promote the cooperation of the big data medical treatment and traditional Chinese medicine industries.
The UK also has abundant education institutions that have cooperated with China's southwestern area to provide training options ranging from preschool education to university education. Ellison welcomed all of the interested people to consult and apply for the Chevening scholarship, which is organized by the UK government and open to everyone.
Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office will continue to coordinate cooperation between Guiyang's government departments and the UK's consulate, promote the implementation of signed projects and contribute to Guiyang's opening-up.
