During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period, Guizhou province's capital city Guiyang actively joined the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

With the aim of becoming an inland pilot zone for the open economy, Guiyang accelerated the construction of airports, railways, expressways and waterways to show its transportation advantages in regional cooperation.

By the end of 2019, Guiyang had domestic flight routes covering all the first and second-tier cities and some main tourist cities, as well as 27 international flight routes.

The 308-kilometer high-speed railways operated by Guiyang can reach the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and Chengdu-Chongqing region in between two and eight hours.

International freight trains, such as the Guizhou-Xinjiang-Europe train, link Guiyang with the world. Guiyang's freights can reach the ports of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in the South and be transported to the world via sea transportation, or be shipped to Europe by train through the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Currently, Guiyang has 612 km of expressway open to traffic, and the construction of ports in Xifeng county and Kaiyang county will connect the city to the waterways of Yangtze River Economic Belt through the Wujiang River waterway.

With efforts being made in terms of international exchanges with other countries, attracting foreign investment, and organizing international expos, Guiyang's foreign trade is growing rapidly.

By the end of 2019, Guiyang had about 378 foreign funded companies worth $1.78 billion, traded with 157 countries and regions, achieved a total import and export trade volume of $4.15 billion, and made more than 16 billion yuan ($2.39 billion) in software and information technology service income.
