Martin Alvez Lemos, consul general of Uruguay's consulate general in Guangzhou, in South China's Guangdong province and Azlimi Zakaria, consul general of Malaysia's consulate general in Nanning, in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, visited Guiyang -- capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province on Sept 17 and 18, respectively.
Zhang Mingquan, director of Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office, welcomed both consuls general to the 2020 ASEAN-China Belt and Road Tourism Culture Exchange Week, which ran from Sept 17 to 20 in Guiyang.
According to Zhang, Guiyang was not only the political, economic and cultural center of the province, but also a traffic hub in Southwest China. He said Guiyang had received support from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, including Uruguay and Malaysia.
Zhang invited the consuls general to attend more international events held by Guiyang, such as the Big Data Expo and the Eco Forum Global and hoped that their countries would continue to support Guiyang's development and conduct cooperation with Guiyang in various fields.
Both consuls general said they were impressed by Guiyang's achievements in its environment, transportation and tourism and hoped to engage in more exchanges and cooperation with Guiyang in the areas of education, friendly cities, agriculture, trade, culture and tourism.
Martin Alvez Lemos brought with him a list of cooperation projects covering various fields during his visit and invited Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office to help promote the launch of the projects.
Azlimi Zakaria said that Guiyang and Malaysia had much in common, such as diverse culture, multi-ethnic groups and beautiful natural scenery. He looks forward to in-depth cooperation between Guiyang and Malaysia on in the areas of tourism, the digital economy and trade, as well as in other areas.
