During a video conference for Chinese mainland members organized by the World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) on July 9, guests included representatives from Guiyang foreign affairs office and foreign affairs associations from 29 Chinese cities.

Song Jingwu, co-president of UCLG's Asia-Pacific section, told the conference that the fight against the novel coronavirus is an important opportunity to promote the world as an integral whole with a common destiny, which makes online foreign affairs essential during such a time.

At the conference, representatives of several cities shared their experiences in preparing international events and carrying out innovative projects.

UCLG is the world's largest international organization of cities and local governments with members in 140 countries, including over 1,000 city members and 112 national local government association members.

It aims to promote understanding and cooperation between local governments, and help them deal with the challenges brought by globalization and urbanization by building a communication network.

Supported by national and provincial foreign affairs associations, Guiyang applied to become a UCLG member in April, and will become an official member in August.

Guiyang plans to make full use of the UCLG platform and apply to host activities and conferences to share Guiyang's innovative practice cases in various areas, which will promote Guiyang's image as a city of opening-up, and help it develop friendly with other members groups.
