Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently received letters of thanks from Germany's Gottingen and Bottrop cities, Japan's Yokohama city and Gunma prefecture, and Malaysia's Penang state.
In early May, Guiyang sent letters of condolence to these cities, and donated anti-epidemic materials to Yokohama, Gunma and Penang.
Rolf-Georg Kohler, mayor of Gottingen, expressed gratitude in the letter, and believes that Guiyang and Gottingen will soon maintain regular communication and promote cooperation in various areas.
Bernd Tischler, mayor of Bottrop, said he was glad to see Guiyang and Bottrop continue to communicate during such a difficult time. The cooperation between the two cities is part of the international anti-epidemic fight, he said.
Fumiko Hayashi, the mayor of Yokohama, said that the masks donated by Guiyang had been sent to the city's service institutions for disabled people, and said he hoped both cities could further cooperate in fighting the virus.
Norio Nakamura, the president of Gunma's Japan-China Friendship Association, said he appreciated Guiyang's assistance, and believes the communication between China and Japan will contribute to global anti-epidemic efforts.
Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang state executive councilor for tourism, arts, culture and heritage, said that Guiyang's donation of masks provided great help to Penang in the fight against the virus.
Penang has started economic recovery and is seeking balance between virus prevention and control and economic growth. Penang hopes to enhance cooperation with Guiyang on tourism, trade and education when the epidemic ends.
