Guizhou, located in Southwest China, is investigating air pollution control within Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone, in southern Guiyang, the provincial capital, according to a report released by local authorities on Sept 2.

Officials from the provincial and municipal environmental protection departments investigated newly-produced motor vehicles, the management of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and exhaust emissions of non-road mobile excavators. The investigation involved the participation of Chery & Wanda Guizhou Bus Co and Guizhou Jonyang Co.

Meanwhile, with the air quality improved, a range of measures taken in the development zone to control local air pollution received genuine support.

The pollution control report highlighted several achievements: This year, 1,880 carts tasked with transporting manures, gravels and coal ashes have been inspected; 1,225 non-standard vehicles recalled; 54 illegal open barbecues and more than 30 open illicit food stores have been prohibited; and 295 instances of open rubbish burning were dealt with.

By the end of July, the excellent rate for atmospheric environment quality in the zone reached 99 percent, up by 1.2 percent from the same period last year. Meanwhile, the mean value of PM10 concentration and PM2.5 concentration decreased by 13.6 percent and 13.3 percent, respectively.
