Inspection team urges rectification of environmental problems in Guiyang

Yang Zhengwei, deputy director-general of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, on Oct 16 headed a team to monitor the progress made by the local government in Guiyang in the rectification of the problems previously found by an inspection team of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).

Early in April, Ding Zhongli, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the NPC, led an enforcement inspection team to supervise the implementation of the Law on Water Pollution Prevention and Control in southwest China's Guizhou province.

During the inspection tour, Yang reviewed the progress of a leachate treatment facility with expanded capacity in a garbage landfill plant in Bili Dam, the comprehensive conservation project of the Maijia River, and a sewage collection and treatment project on the banks of Xiaowan River.

They also went along the Maijia River to supervise environmental conservation, the overflow problem in sewage treatment plants, and a sewage collection and treatment project near the Xiaowan River.

After listening to the environmental work report Yang noted that Guiyang Jinghuan Environmental Protection Co should fulfill its responsibilities in environmental conservation and accelerate the building of the leachate treatment facility in Bili Dam.

The city's Baiyun district should attach great importance to the conservation of the Maijia River and try to improve its water quality, while the district of Guanshanhu ought to deepen its understanding of the environmental management of the Xiaowan River and strengthen its sense of urgency as well as mission during the rectification process.

Officials from the Guiyang Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment pledged that they would intensify the efforts in law enforcement inspection and urge relevant departments to rectify problems pointed out by the Standing Committee of the NPC inspection team.

Officials from the Guiyang Environmental Protection Inspection Detachment, Baiyun and Guanshanhu districts, and other departments attended the inspection tour.
