In 2025, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province enhanced their management of housing, water, refuse, household lavatories, and local customs.
In doing so, they improved the appearance of villages within their jurisdiction, making rural areas cleaner and more beautiful.
Over the past year, Guiyang and Gui'an built and renovated 7,448 rural household toilets; completed all 10 pilot projects for the integrated management of these toilets and sewage; and ensured that sanitation toilets cover more than 98 percent of residential areas.
Meanwhile, they also issued 19 management systems for domestic sewage treatment, garbage management, toilet maintenance, and public cemetery public welfare attribute protection, conducting publicity campaigns for 650,000 households and ensuring 1.25 million people got to engage in activities aimed at raising awareness of civilized practices.
Guiyang and Gui'an transformed ecological advantages into development advantages, integrating agriculture with tourism, turning lucid waters and lush mountains into invaluable assets.
In recent years, Guiyang and Gui'an have been striving to build the "Cool Guiyang" brand, constructing 10 rural living industry belts, putting 2,597 "rural living houses" into operation, covering 273 villages and hamlets, and attracting over 300,000 rural living tourists. This has driven employment for more than 11,000 people in the vicinity, and ramped up household income by around 22,000 yuan ($3,200) on average.
From ensuring basic living needs are met to improving people's quality of life, Guiyang and Gui'an have adhered to a people-centered approach in environmental improvement, making farmers' sense of gain, happiness, and security fuller, more guaranteed, and more sustainable.
