During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Xiuwen county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has focused on developing three key agricultural specialties: kiwifruit, vegetables, and pig farming.
The county has established 12 professional summer-autumn vegetable villages, two "grain + vegetable" relay planting villages, and six mushroom planting demonstration bases, with its Xiaoqing town recognized as a specialty town for peppers, forming a large-scale, professional vegetable production model.
In 2023, Guizhou's first academician workstation for animal husbandry was established in Xiuwen, promoting breeding, reproduction, and pig farming. The county currently processes over 220,000 pigs annually and produces 23,000 metric tons of meat, securing the local meat supply.
Xiuwen has maintained annual grain planting of over 200,000 mu (13.33 hectares) and yields of over 60,000 tons, promoting high-quality varieties and advanced planting techniques, and developing mechanized agricultural services.
The comprehensive mechanization rate for major crops has reached 59.79 percent, earning Xiuwen its title as one of the first National Agricultural Science and Technology Modernization Pilot Counties.
Xiuwen will continue to utilize its unique resources and existing industrial foundations to build a modern agricultural industrial system centered on kiwifruit, vegetables, and pig farming, driving full-chain upgrades across the agricultural sector.
