The 2024 Guizhou Skills Competition – First New Tea Beverage Workers' Skills Competition recently took place in Duyun city, Qiannan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture in Southwest China's Guizhou province.
Thirteen teams, comprising 39 competitors from tea enterprises and the new tea beverage industry across the province, participated. The team from Guiyang achieved remarkable success, taking second place.
The competition aimed to discover and nurture outstanding talent in the new tea beverage sector, driving innovation and enhancing professional skills and creativity among tea beverage artisans. It also sought to standardize and professionalize the industry, promoting its growth across the province.
The event consisted of a theoretical exam and hands-on skill assessments. Wang Lin, a member of the Guiyang team, claimed second place after demonstrating exceptional expertise. Competitors in the top five will be recommended for skill-level promotions per provincial regulations.
Wang's standout creation featured Guizhou black tea as the base, infused with passion fruit, yellow lemon, and strawberries. Inspired by the Guizhou Miao tradition of sour soup hotpot, Wang skillfully blended cultural elements into her beverage.
The Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs has prioritized tea processing and production training, offering over 1,500 training opportunities annually. Experts combine online and in-person instruction, elevating the skills of rural technicians, tea enterprise professionals, and growers.
Guiyang's tea talent has consistently shone in competitions, winning accolades in the 2024 Guizhou White Tea Processing Skills Competition and the Guizhou Tea Industry Skills Contest.
