Guiyang highlights sealwort industry development

In recent years, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has significantly emphasized developing sealwort, a vital medicinal herb in traditional Chinese medicine with pharmaceutical and dietary value.

Guiyang offers several advantages for cultivating this herb. As a native region of sealwort, Guizhou possesses abundant wild sealwort resources with a long history of cultivation and superior quality.

Guiyang's rich forest resources provide ample land suitable for sealwort cultivation. The city effectively utilizes idle land resources and eases conflicts with food crops, solidifying Guizhou's position as a leading province in sealwort cultivation nationwide.

Guiyang has designated sealwort as a key specialty product for development. The city has approximately 6,000 mu (400 hectares) of sealwort cultivation land, with over 4,000 mu dedicated to under-forest planting, 1,500 mu for orchard intercropping, and nearly 500 mu for intercropping with crops like corn.

Guiyang actively promotes the research and development of deep-processed sealwort products, highlighting sealwort's medicinal and dietary properties. By extending the industrial chain and exploring unique applications of sealwort in food, health, medicine, and dairy products, the city aims to develop new products and expand the industry.

Guiyang plans to breed two sealwort varieties suitable for under-forest planting, develop over 10 deep-processed products, nurture three leading enterprises, and establish a leading sealwort industry by 2030.
