Amidst the bountiful harvest season in Southwest China's Guizhou, the fields of Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area are adorned with golden rice and fragrant fruit.
Currently, over 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of rice fields in Longbao village, Gui'an, are ready for harvest, with farmers hard at work reaping their bounty.
Since the beginning of this year, Guiyang and Gui'an have prioritized food security in agricultural and rural work, designating 302,000 mu as demonstration responsibility fields, promoting 14 key grain and oil crop varieties, and initiating comprehensive construction projects for 79,000 mu of high-standard farmland, with over 1,000 agricultural technicians providing on-site guidance.
It is projected that the total planted area for grains in Guizhou will reach 1.41 million mu this year, yielding over 447,800 metric tons, surpassing the provincial grain production target.
Behind this abundant yield lies robust support from agricultural technological advancements. Guiyang and Gui'an have utilized big data, internet of things, and other technologies to strengthen disease and pest monitoring networks, establishing 314 monitoring points since 2021.
Moreover, machine harvesting of rice and other grain and oil crops is expected to be employed on around 300,000 mu this year, resulting in an estimated increase of approximately 2.14 million kilograms through reduced losses.
