Guiyang and Gui'an hold rice tasting and evaluation event

The high-quality rice tasting and evaluation event of Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area was held on Oct 11 in Luwo village, Xifeng county, Guiyang.

Seventeen nationally or provincially approved premium rice varieties were showcased at the event, which aimed to select the best varieties suitable for cultivation in Guiyang and Gui'an. The emphasis was on quality and high-end produce.

The event served as a platform for seed companies to compete and for farmers to choose premium seeds. It increased the value of rice products, met consumer demands for quality, and enhanced the industry's quality and branding, supporting food security and rural vitalization.

The event attracted crowds, with the aroma of rice filling the air. Judges evaluated varieties based on smell, appearance, texture, taste, and reheated quality, using blind testing to determine final scores.

Guiyang has made significant agricultural advancements this year, establishing five seed breeding research bases, approving 45 provincial varieties, and securing a national patent for the rice dwarf gene (sdlr5). The city has also developed a seed quality testing center and standardized field testing procedures for various crops, leading to increased planting areas.

The continuous improvement of rice varieties in Guiyang and Gui'an has significantly boosted crop yields, forming a sustainable ecological cycle.
