Seed production company helps boost rural vitalization

Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area are focusing on ensuring food security and the effective supply of key agricultural products, supporting the growth of seed industry enterprises.

Guizhou Lihe Agricultural Technology Co, a leading industrialized seed production company in Guiyang, breeds corn and chili varieties to support the revitalization of the agricultural industry.

Visiting the company's experimental base in Qiantao township of Huaxi district in Guiyang, the corn trials are showing promise. Workers carefully inspect corn cobs between the rows, while researchers in the lab measure various data to prepare for future yield assessments.

Through collaborations with domestic and international universities, as well as the introduction of superior varieties, the company has bred corn varieties with strong lodging resistance and high yields tailored to the varying soil and climate conditions in regions like Guizhou and Sichuan.

While ensuring food security, the company capitalizes on Guizhou's chili industry advantages by continuously breeding high-quality chili seedlings. Varieties like Guinong No 3 have been developed, known for their high yields, strong disease resistance, and excellent taste. The company is currently focusing on breeding chili seedlings suitable for autumn and winter planting.

Wang Kaimeng, the company's chairman, said the company will promote and apply new technologies in winter chili cultivation to increase farmers' incomes and boost production. It will also continue to invest in developing high-yielding, quality, and lodging-resistant corn varieties, while stepping up cooperation with domestic and international universities, to empower Guizhou's agriculture industry.
