Huaxi sees great results in rural vitalization

Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been promoting rural vitalization by upgrading agriculture, developing rural areas, and helping farmers in 2022. 

The district has accelerated the construction of a strawberry standard system, chicken breeding farms, and rare edible fungi farms, as well as the development of special chili products to boost local fruit, livestock and animal husbandry, vegetable and fungi industries. 

By further extending the agricultural product process chain, promoting high-end seedling and modern urban agriculture, the district has formed a large-scale agricultural industrial system. 

The number of market players operating agricultural businesses in Huaxi has increased. There are 646 registered farmers' professional cooperatives, 22 leading enterprises at or above the city level, and 38 family farms.

The district has been creating a beautiful rural living environment. This year, it has completed the renovation of 960 rural houses, advanced four rural water drinking guarantee projects, implemented sewage treatment in 13 rural villages, confirmed recyclables and harmful waste collection sites in 91 villages, and reconstructed toilets for 18,366 households. 

By teaching skills to villagers, Huaxi has continued to improve their employment and entrepreneurial abilities. The district has developed jobs in local industrial parks and high-standard farmland construction projects to solve employment problems encountered by villagers and increase their incomes.

So far, 2,840 people in rural Huaxi have found employment outside the district, more than 150 farming households have realized 250 million yuan ($34.45 million) of sales in strawberry growth this year, the integration of vegetable breeding with specialized techniques has increased the incomes of 20 farming households by 2,000 yuan each, and 180 farming households each have increased their incomes by 2,500 yuan through the edible fungi industry.
