The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs conducts a biennial assessment of the vegetable basket project in 36 major cities across the country.
In the 2019-2020 assessment, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, ranked 16th, but in the latest evaluation, it secured the 4th spot nationwide, marking its best performance ever.

Guiyang has established 420,000 mu (28,000 hectares) of off-site supply bases in locations like Luodian, Rongjiang, and Qinglong, including a 22,800-mu winter vegetable supply base in Luodian.
This initiative has enabled the city to bring over 36,500 metric tons of vegetables to the market, resolving 21.5 percent of the seasonal vegetable deficit in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area.
In addition to addressing supply shortages, Guiyang's vegetable basket system continues to leverage its strengths.
To further enhance production capacity, Qingzhen county-level has adopted cooperative models such as "company + village collective" and "company + farmers" to raise high-quality chickens. This approach has benefited over 510 households in 15 village collectives, with each farming household earning over 100,000 yuan ($13,744.88) annually.
Also, Guiyang has upgraded its sales channels. Currently, the city has two primary wholesale markets, 16 local wholesale markets, and 475 vegetable basket project retail outlets in 80 administrative communities, ensuring that all residents are within a 15-minute walk of an outlet.
