At the Longbao Dam in Gaofeng town, Gui'an New Area, Southwest China's Guizhou province, plant protection drones are now spreading pesticides throughout fields.

This year, based on the provincial 2024 action plan to incentivize innovation and entrepreneurship among agricultural technicians, the rice pest prevention and control demonstration team led by Zhang Bin from the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs was assigned to provide technical support at the dam.

The team leader Zhang Bin said that the team has established an IoT system for the green control of major rice pests and diseases at Longbao Dam. This system integrates remote control, automatic pest trapping, timed collection of pest images, data transmission, data statistics, data analysis, and the sending of warning information.

The system uses lights of different spectra to attract major pests such as rice planthoppers and rice leaf rollers. It also collects meteorological data such as temperature, humidity, and rainfall during the rice growth period through field weather stations. By analyzing these data with an early warning model, the system determines the optimal periods for pest control, providing precise guidance for conducting control measures.

The team plans to work closely with the local comprehensive service center to strengthen the management of the system.
