Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs launched the waste-free city initiative last March, which marked the beginning of the waste-free village campaign.

A waste-free village refers to adopting innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development concepts to promote solid waste reduction, reutilization, and harmless disposal. The aim is to minimize landfill volume, reduce the environmental impact of solid waste, and promote the development of green production and a green lifestyle in rural areas.

"We exchange 6 kilograms of used agricultural plastic film for 1 kg of thickened and high-strength plastic film. After collecting the disposed agricultural film from villagers, we process it in a standardized manner and produce usable plastic particles for sale. Since August of this year, we have collected around 600 kg of used plastic film in the village," said Zhou Lianjun, the project leader of Guizhou Innovative Environment-Friendly Plastic Tech Co.

A recycled waste sorting center was recently established in Shangshui village, Baiyun district. The village is equipped with a cleaning team, garbage collection vehicles, and funds for providing daily necessities such as rice, dishwashing liquid, and tissue paper as small rewards to encourage villagers to participate in garbage sorting and exchange activities.
