In response to the frequent snow, rain and low temperatures at this time of year in Guiyang City and Guian New Area, the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs has arranged a series of work sessions, formulating eight targeted measures to ensure the price stability of food until spring.
Staff members were urged to strengthen communications with the meteorological department, implement scientific precautionary measures targeting potential disasters caused by low temperatures, and assign agricultural technician teams in a timely manner to help production bases and agricultural companies protect their crops, vegetables and livestock.
Farmers were advised to increase the temperatures at their greenhouses, store sufficient pesticides, fertilizers, and feed, maintain old farms and heating facilities, and prepare for large-scale animal diseases.
Efforts have been made to ensure that from December to February, 500,000 metric tons of vegetables will be supplied in Guiyang. Major wholesalers and circulation enterprises were guided to make sure their production matches their marketing.
Actions have also been taken to minimize the adverse effect of the rain and snow on local roads.
The bureau encouraged 154 fresh produce vendors and 60 large-scale chain supermarkets to procure and stock more daily living necessities, meat, vegetables and other food, whose prices should be 15 to 30 percent lower than those at farm produce markets.
The bureau plans to sample at least 710 and 300 batches of edible agricultural products from the production and consumption sides, respectively, to avoid the circulation of unqualified agricultural products.
