New planting model boosts grain production

In less than 10 days, the rice planting system in the modern agricultural demonstration fields in Longbao village, Gui'an New Area, has been completed and implemented.

On April 8, within the plastic film greenhouse, neatly arranged bowl-shaped trays held rice seedlings with delicate shoots already emerging. In just over 20 days, these seedlings will be transplanted from the seedling nursery into the fields.

Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area began constructing modern agricultural demonstration fields in Longbao village in 2022. A specific model has been developed here based on the separation of land ownership, contracting rights, and operating rights.

This model follows market-oriented principles and focuses on agricultural technology input and the cultivation of new types of operating entities. It explores the establishment of a new interest linkage mechanism involving leading enterprises, village collective economies, new operating entities, and farmers.

The demonstration fields serve multiple purposes. Previously, this area had over 40 different rice varieties, resulting in inconsistent yields. This year, all these varieties have been replaced with a few high-yielding, good-tasting, and market-recognized varieties.

The Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs stated that it will promote this cultivation model and make adjustments based on practical circumstances to ensure this application is replicable. The goal is to improve the per-unit yield of grain and enhance the province's food production and supply capacity.
