Processed crop straw becomes agricultural treasure

On March 16, in order to improve the utilization rate of crop straw, enhance farmland quality, and reduce chemical fertilizer usage, a straw recycling and utilization demonstration was held in Kaiyang county of Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province.

At the biomass fuel pellet factory in Kaiyang county, straw undergoes a magnificent transformation from waste to biomass fuel pellets.

"Villagers used to use electricity or coal for heating, but now they have switched to burning our straw fuel pellets. It is twice as cheap as using electricity and 1.5 times cheaper than using coal. It also reduces costs and pollution," explained the person in charge of Guizhou Hongxin Biomass Energy Technology Co.

Biomass fuel pellets are highly efficient, easily combustible, produce less ash, and can effectively replace coal. They contribute to environmental protection and the control of greenhouse gas emissions.

This year, several departments in Guiyang, including those for agriculture and rural affairs, environmental protection, public security, emergency response, and forestry, jointly issued a notice that requires local authorities to strengthen the comprehensive utilization of crop straw. The notice also encouraged the increase of related publicity, strict daily inspections, and the prevention of open-air burning.
