Officials launch investigation on green food, GI products

In order to ensure the quality and strengthen the management on organic (pesticide-free) food and geographical indication (GI) agricultural products, the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs worked with the provincial agricultural product quality supervision station and the provincial green food development center to conduct a special investigation on these products on Jan 30.

Most of the fresh food in large-scale supermarkets have been sampled, and it was found that the majority of food producers have used the organic food and GI product codes properly.

The investigation team also checked if any other problems exist, such as excessive packaging, and urged market entities to fulfill their food safety responsibility according to the laws.

The investigation aimed to guide consumers and market players to identify and purchase qualified organic food and GI products.
