Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, launched a series of commuting buses for students in rural areas since last year, benefiting more than 3,000 students from 26 schools in the towns of Baihuahu, Jinhua, and Zhuchang.

Many students used to walk more than 40 minutes to schools. With the new buses, commuting now takes 10 minutes, allowing students to have more time to rest and study.

With Guanshanhu's subsidy, the bus ticket costs only 2 yuan ($0.31) per person. Guanshanhu also provides 2,500 yuan of subsidy per semester to hire volunteers to guarantee the students' security on buses.

In addition to daily bus security checks, a bus operator monitors the buses' locations and the situation inside through an online dispatch platform and a video monitoring system.

Parents can check the ticket payment and boarding time for their children via mobile.
