The government of Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province has recently delivered a report on its prevention and control measures directed at agricultural non-point source pollution.

Agricultural non-point source pollution is mainly caused by fertilizers, pesticides and other organic or inorganic nutrients that leak into fields, or by agricultural wastewater discharge.

According to the report, efforts have been made in ecological restoration, and the comprehensive utilization rate of animal manure and the rate of ownership of waste treatment equipment have been remained at about 85 percent and 96 percent, respectively.

Guiyang and Guian New Area are distributing 10 million yuan ($1.49 million) annually into the upgrading of fertilizer and pesticide, the utilization of straw and waste, the recycling of agricultural film, and the management of farm land.

Since the beginning of 2021, Guiyang has invested 27.74 million yuan in agricultural non-point source pollution, including 5.74 million yuan in plant disease prevention and containment projects and 2 million yuan in waste treatment programs in Qingzhen city and Xifeng county.

The report shows that to date, the city has cleaned 476,000 metric tons of rural household waste, some 8,900 ponds in villages, and more than 10,000 kilometers of ditches.

Meanwhile, Guiyang has also managed to digitalize the waste transfer and delivery process with help from provincial digital rural platforms.
