Located in the middle of Southwest China's Guizhou province, Guiyang has an average altitude of 1,100 meters and a forest coverage rate of 52 percent, making it a popular summer resort in China and an ideal place for green agricultural production.
The city has been prioritizing agriculture and has continued to develop its special industries, which include vegetables, stock and poultry, fruit, tea, dairy and herbs. Guiyang also seeks to promote the integration of agriculture with the secondary and tertiary industries.
Four vegetable industrial belts have been established in Guiyang, which has also set up many urban vegetable supply bases featuring modern equipment. Qingzhen and Xifeng are two stock and poultry industrial bases that have doubled down on efforts to raise the competitiveness of their products.
Guiyang's unique geography gives allows it to grow a wide variety of nutritious fruits. According to the 2021 fruit industry development work plan issued by the government, the city will bring in more related investment projects and enhance technological support. The total planting area for kiwi fruit, peaches, cherries, grapes, strawberries and many other fruits has exceeded 8 hectares, with an annual output of 460,000 metric tons.
In addition, Guiyang relies on several leading dairy enterprises and has established a complete industrial chain covering the processing, delivery and sale of dairy products, satisfying 70 percent of the city's milk demand.
The tea and traditional Chinese medicine sectors are also flourishing in the city.
